Lovely Lancashire

Lovely Lancashire

Hoghton Tower is a beautiful example of English renaissance architecture; it stands proudly on its hill overlooking the surrounding countryside, an impressive sight for visitors travelling up its mile-long drive.

An amusing legend tells of a feast in the banqueting hall given in King James honour; he was so moved by the excellent loin of beef he was served that he took his sword and knighted it "Sir Loin", giving us the term 'sirloin' steak!

Just a short drive away is Samlesbury Hall, a 14th-century Tudor Manor House. Henry VIII is a major attraction and will guide visitors on a tour of this beautiful hall. He is definitely a character and will share stories of olden times and keep guests well entertained.

Duration: eight hours
